Solar Panel Installation Across the UK
Cut energy bills, reduce carbon and gain energy independence with high-performance solar PV and optional battery storage. EnergyPlus designs and installs systems tailored to UK homes and businesses.
Serving England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Why go solar with EnergyPlus?
Lower energy bills
Generate your own clean electricity and buy less from the grid. A well-sized UK system can cover a large share of daytime usage and reduce exposure to energy price volatility.
Export and earn
Get paid for surplus electricity via the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG). We’ll help you understand supplier rates and how to qualify with a suitable meter and documentation.
0% VAT on home solar
Most domestic solar PV and battery storage installations benefit from 0% VAT in the UK until 31 March 2027 (including Northern Ireland). Terms and eligibility apply.
Reliable UK-ready technology
High-efficiency modules designed for varied British weather. Options for shade-tolerant designs and advanced monitoring keep your system performing year-round.
Battery storage options
Store daytime solar for evening use, reduce grid reliance, and make the most of time-of-use tariffs. Add now or retrofit later—your choice.
End-to-end service
From survey and design to installation, grid notifications and handover, we handle the details so you don’t have to.
UK solar incentives and regulations
Smart Export Guarantee (SEG)
- Licensed electricity suppliers pay for the renewable electricity you export to the grid.
- Rates vary by supplier and tariff; you can shop around for the best deal.
- Typically requires a smart meter capable of half-hourly export readings.
0% VAT on domestic solar
- Most domestic solar PV and associated battery storage qualify for a 0% VAT rate in the UK until 31 March 2027.
- Scope and eligibility are defined by HMRC; commercial projects are generally standard-rated.
Planning permission
- Most home installations are classed as Permitted Development.
- Exceptions can include listed buildings, conservation areas, certain flat roofs and installations that protrude excessively from the roofline.
- We’ll guide you if planning or additional approvals are required.
Grid notifications & standards
- Installations are designed to meet UK standards such as BS 7671, and follow DNO G98/G99 notification or approval processes as applicable.
- We provide handover documentation to support warranties and SEG applications.
Note: Energy policies and tariffs can change. We’ll explain current requirements and help you make informed choices.
How our UK solar installation process works
-
1) Quick remote assessment
Share your postcode, roof photos (or satellite imagery) and recent bill details. We estimate capacity, expected generation and savings, and discuss battery options.
-
2) Technical survey
A detailed survey checks roof structure, shading, cable routes and consumer unit suitability. We confirm system size, panel layout and inverter location.
-
3) Bespoke design & proposal
You receive a clear proposal with expected annual yield, self-consumption assumptions, export options, components, warranties and a fixed installation price.
-
4) Permissions & scheduling
We handle relevant DNO notifications/approvals (G98/G99) and agree an installation date. For homes, most installs complete in 1–2 days once scaffolding is up.
-
5) Professional installation
Qualified installers fit mounting, panels, inverter, isolators and (if chosen) battery. Systems are tested, commissioned and connected safely.
-
6) Handover & support
We provide documentation, monitoring setup and guidance for SEG applications. After installation, we’re here to assist with any questions.
System options tailored to your property
Panel types & mounting
- On-roof (most common), in-roof or flat-roof ballasted frames.
- High-efficiency monocrystalline modules for maximum output per m².
- All-black aesthetic options for kerb appeal.
Inverters & optimisation
- String inverters for simplicity and value.
- Power optimisers or microinverters to mitigate shading or mixed roof aspects.
- Online monitoring to track performance in real time.
Battery storage
- Modular batteries sized to your usage profile.
- Store daytime solar for evenings and outages (where backup functionality is specified).
- Works with time-of-use tariffs for off-peak charging.
EV charging integration
- Prioritise solar to your EV when surplus is available.
- Smart charge scheduling to suit tariffs and travel patterns.
Roof and site suitability
- South-facing roofs yield the most, but east/west can perform very well.
- Optimal UK roof pitch is typically 30–40°, but adjustable mounting caters for variations.
- Shading analysis ensures realistic yield estimates.
Documentation & warranties
- Manufacturer product and performance warranties for panels.
- Inverter and battery warranties backed by the manufacturer.
- Handover pack to support insurance and SEG applications.
Pricing, savings and payback
Every property is unique, but the following typical UK ranges can help you plan. Final prices depend on roof complexity, components, access and electrical works.
Typical guide prices
- 3–4 kWp home system: often from around £5,000–£8,000.
- 5–6 kWp home system: often from around £7,000–£10,000.
- Battery storage: often from around £3,000–£6,000 depending on capacity.
Figures are indicative and subject to survey. 0% VAT may apply to eligible domestic installations.
Example annual impact
For a well-sited 4 kWp system generating ~3,400 kWh/year:
- If you use 45% on site at 28p/kWh, bill reduction ˜ £428.
- If you export 55% at 12p/kWh SEG, export income ˜ £224.
- Total estimated first-year benefit ˜ £652.
Actual results vary with usage, tariffs, orientation, shading and supplier SEG rates.
Boosting returns
- Shift daytime loads (washing, dishwashing) into sunny hours.
- Add a battery to capture evening usage.
- Consider time-of-use tariffs and EV charging strategies.
Commercial and public-sector solar
Cut operating costs and improve sustainability with a bespoke commercial PV solution. From retail units and warehouses to schools and offices, we provide design, installation and O&M support sized to your load profile and roof area.
- Daytime self-consumption for immediate bill reductions.
- Monitoring and reporting to support ESG and carbon disclosures.
- Battery options for peak-shaving and tariff optimisation.
Solar installation FAQs (UK)
Do solar panels work well in the UK climate?
Yes. Modern PV works efficiently in cool, bright conditions and doesn’t need direct sunlight to generate. Output is higher in summer but systems produce useful energy year-round.
Will I need planning permission?
Most domestic systems are Permitted Development. Listed buildings, conservation areas and certain flat roofs may need consent. We’ll advise after your survey.
How long does installation take?
For a typical house, installation is usually 1–2 days once scaffolding is erected. Larger or more complex projects can take longer.
Can I add a battery later?
Yes. Many systems are designed to allow retrofit batteries when you’re ready.
What maintenance is required?
PV has no moving parts. Occasional visual checks, monitoring alerts and cleaning if dirt accumulates are typical. Professional inspections can be arranged.
What documentation do I need for SEG?
SEG suppliers usually ask for proof of installation and an export-capable meter. We provide a handover pack and guidance to help you apply.
What if my roof is shaded?
We assess shading and may recommend layout adjustments, optimisers or microinverters to reduce losses.
