Free Grant Eligibility Check

Answer a few quick questions and our team will match you to the best funding route. We’ll confirm what you could get and the next steps.

No spam. We’ll only use your details to assess eligibility and arrange your survey.

How Energy Grants Work

  1. Eligibility check: We confirm the best funding route for your home and circumstances.
  2. Free home survey: A qualified assessor reviews your property and current EPC.
  3. Funding approval: We finalise paperwork with the energy supplier, local authority or scheme administrator.
  4. Installation: Trusted installers complete the works. You receive warranties and compliance documents.

Who Can Get a Home Energy Grant?

You may qualify if one or more of the following apply:

  • Your home has an EPC band of D, E, F or G (lower-rated homes are prioritised).
  • Someone in your household receives a means-tested benefit (e.g., Universal Credit, Pension Credit, Income-related ESA/JSA, Tax Credits, Housing Benefit).
  • Your local council supports applications through LA Flex (flexible eligibility) based on income, fuel poverty risk or health conditions.
  • You live off the gas grid, rely on electric, oil or LPG heating, or have no central heating.
  • You own your home or privately rent (rented properties require landlord permission).

Even if you’re not on benefits, you could still qualify for insulation under the Great British Insulation Scheme, depending on your EPC and council tax band.

Current UK Home Energy Grants

ECO4 (Energy Company Obligation)

What it is: A government-backed scheme (running to March 2026) requiring major energy suppliers to fund energy efficiency improvements for lower-income and vulnerable households.

Typical measures: Loft, cavity and solid wall insulation, room-in-roof insulation, heating controls, first-time central heating, eligible low-carbon heating (e.g., heat pumps) and, in some cases, solar PV where suitable. A fabric-first approach applies.

Who it helps: Primarily owner-occupiers and private renters with EPC D–G. Qualifying benefits or local authority flexible eligibility can apply. Availability for social housing is limited by scheme rules and property rating.

What you pay: Many installs are fully funded; some homes may require a small contribution depending on the works and property.

Great British Insulation Scheme (GBIS)

What it is: A nationwide programme (to March 2026) focused on delivering a single, cost-effective insulation measure to reduce heat loss.

Typical measures: Loft insulation, cavity wall insulation, underfloor insulation, room-in-roof insulation and, in certain cases, solid wall insulation.

Who it helps: Two routes: the General Group (homes with qualifying EPC and council tax bands) and the Low-Income Group (benefit recipients or those eligible via LA Flex). Not everyone will receive a 100% grant; a contribution may be required, especially under the General Group.

Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) – England and Wales

What it is: Upfront grants to help replace fossil fuel heating with low-carbon systems, available through to 2028.

Grant values: Typically up to £7,500 for air-source and ground-source heat pumps. Biomass boiler grants (usually £5,000) are available in limited circumstances (e.g., off-gas and outside certain air quality zones). Final amounts depend on scheme rules at the time of application.

Key requirements: An eligible EPC and no outstanding loft or cavity wall insulation recommendations (or these must be installed). Installations must be carried out by MCS-certified installers. Landlords can apply.

Home Upgrade Grant (HUG2) – Local Authority-led

What it is: Council-run funding for low-income, off-gas homes with lower EPC ratings. Timing and availability vary by local authority.

Typical measures: Insulation, efficient electric heating, air source heat pumps and renewables (subject to scheme design). Check your council’s current programme for dates and eligibility.

Local Authority Flexible Eligibility (LA Flex)

Under ECO4 and related programmes, councils can publish a Statement of Intent allowing them to refer households that are at risk of fuel poverty or have health vulnerabilities, even if they do not receive benefits. Criteria vary by council and may include income thresholds, health conditions and property EPC.

Other support in devolved nations

Scotland: Programmes such as Warmer Homes Scotland are delivered via Home Energy Scotland. Wales: The Nest scheme offers advice and support. Northern Ireland: Separate schemes operate via the Northern Ireland Sustainable Energy Programme. Availability and measures differ; we can signpost you to the correct service.

Frequently Asked Questions

What grants are available right now?

For most households, the main options are ECO4 and the Great British Insulation Scheme (both running to March 2026). In England and Wales, the Boiler Upgrade Scheme supports heat pumps and, in specific cases, biomass boilers through to 2028. Many councils also run HUG2 and related local schemes. Availability can change; we’ll confirm the best active route for you.

Do I need to be on benefits to qualify?

No. While benefits help you qualify under ECO4 and the low-income route of GBIS, councils can also refer households via LA Flex. GBIS also has a General Group where some homes may qualify for insulation based on EPC and council tax band, with a possible contribution.

Can private tenants apply?

Yes, with your landlord’s permission. Landlords often benefit from improved EPC ratings and reduced tenant bills.

Will I receive cash?

No. Grants are applied directly to the cost of approved measures. If a contribution is required, we’ll tell you in advance.

How long does the process take?

Typical timelines range from 2–8 weeks from eligibility confirmation to installation, depending on the scheme, survey complexity and installer availability.

What is an EPC and do I need one?

An Energy Performance Certificate rates your home from A (most efficient) to G (least). Most grants prioritise D–G homes. If you don’t have an EPC, we can help arrange an assessment.

Do I have to contribute?

Many ECO4 installations are fully funded. Under GBIS General Group and some properties, a customer contribution may be required. We’ll provide a clear quote before any work.
