What is the typical installation timeline?

For small AC deployments, installation often completes within 1-3 days once materials and permissions are in place. Larger projects may take longer due to groundwork, DNO approvals, or three-phase upgrades. Usual steps: survey, design, quote, approvals, installation, commissioning, and software onboarding.

Do we need DNO approval or planning permission?

Most installs require notifying your Distribution Network Operator (DNO); higher loads or clustered installs may need prior approval and possibly supply upgrades. Planning permission is typically not required for standard wall or pedestal chargers in private car parks, but signage, lighting or canopies may require consent. Your installer should advise.

Can we control access and recover costs from users?

Yes. Networked chargers with OCPP software support RFID cards or mobile apps, user groups, time or kWh tariffs, staff discounts, visitor billing, and automated receipts and reports. You can make chargers private or public and set different prices by user type or schedule.

How do we avoid overloading our electrical supply?

Do we need three-phase power?

Three-phase supply enables 11–22 kW AC charging and is common on commercial sites in the United Kingdom. If you only have single-phase, 7 kW charging is still effective for staff vehicles parked for several hours.

Can we bill employees or visitors for energy?

Yes. With a compatible back-office platform you can set different tariffs for staff, fleet and visitors, apply RFID or app access, and export reports for payroll or expense reimbursement.
