How we get paid

EnergyPlus is free for you to use. We’re paid commission by energy suppliers and referral fees by the vetted partners we introduce you to — never by you. Here’s exactly how that works, and why it never changes the deals we show you or the order we rank them.

  • Free to use — you pay the same price as going to the supplier direct
  • Commission never decides which suppliers, deals or ranking order you see
  • Ask us any time for the exact commission on your quote

Quotes and savings are estimates that depend on your location, meter type, payment method, usage and supplier availability.

The fast answer

EnergyPlus is completely free to use. When you switch or request a quote through us, we’re paid a commission by the energy supplier, or a referral fee by a vetted partner — the same way a mortgage broker or comparison site is paid. You pay exactly the same price as going direct, and the commission a supplier pays us never decides which deals or suppliers we show you, or the order we rank them in.

How we’re paid

We don’t charge you a penny. Our income comes from the suppliers and partners we work with, and it varies by the type of service:

  • Energy switching. When you switch your home gas or electricity through us, the supplier pays us an introducer commission for arranging the switch. Your tariff and unit rates are identical to signing up with that supplier directly.
  • Business energy. Business energy is arranged through a chosen partner. We receive a share of the commission the supplier pays for setting up the contract.
  • Solar, batteries, EV chargers, boilers, heat pumps & air conditioning. When you request a quote, we pass your enquiry to a vetted installer and are paid a referral fee. The installer quotes you directly.
  • Solar export (SEG) & other partners. Where we refer you to a supplier or specialist partner (for example a Smart Export Guarantee tariff), we may receive a share of the commission or a referral fee.

Some links on our site are affiliate links. If you sign up through one, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Does commission affect what I see?

No. This is the part that matters most, so we’re clear about it:

  • When we show you energy deals to compare, we rank them by your estimated cost and saving — not by how much commission a supplier pays us.
  • Commission rates differ between suppliers, but that never changes which deals appear or the order they’re listed in.
  • Our editorial content — guides, reviews and comparisons — is kept separate from our commercial relationships. See our Editorial policy and Methodology.
  • Where a service is provided through a single chosen partner rather than a market-wide comparison (for example business energy), we tell you.

A worked example

The figures below are illustrative, to show how it works — not a fixed rate.

Say you switch through EnergyPlus. The new supplier pays us an introducer commission for arranging the switch — typically around £20 for a single fuel (gas or electricity), so about £40 for a dual-fuel switch. You never pay us a penny — it’s free to you, and you pay exactly the same standing charge and unit rates as if you’d gone to that supplier directly. The commission comes out of the supplier’s customer-acquisition budget, not your bill, and it never affects which deals we show you or how we rank them.

For an installer enquiry — solar panels, an EV charger or a heat pump, say — we’re paid a referral fee by the installer we introduce you to. You’re under no obligation, and you get your quote and price from the installer.

  • We’ll always be free for you to use.
  • You’ll never pay more by coming through us than by going direct.

  • We’ll share our exact commission on your quote whenever you ask.

Frequently asked questions

Does it cost me anything to use EnergyPlus?

No. EnergyPlus is completely free to use. We’re paid by energy suppliers and partners, never by you.

Do I pay more by switching through EnergyPlus?

No. You pay exactly the same standing charges and unit rates as if you had gone to the supplier directly. Our commission comes from the supplier, not from your bill.

How does EnergyPlus make money?

We earn an introducer commission from energy suppliers when you switch, and referral fees from vetted partners — such as solar, EV charger, boiler and heat pump installers — when we pass on your enquiry.

Does commission affect which deals or suppliers you show me?

No. We rank energy deals by your estimated cost and saving, not by the commission a supplier pays us. Different suppliers pay different amounts, and that never changes which deals appear or the order they are listed in.

Can I find out exactly how much commission you earn?

Yes. Email info@energyplus.co.uk and we will share the specific commission that applies to your quote.

Are you independent?

Our editorial content is kept separate from our commercial relationships. Where we compare energy deals we rank them by cost and saving; where a service is provided through a single chosen partner, such as business energy, we tell you.
