Emergencies — do not phone Octopus Energy
Gas leaks and power cuts are handled by the national emergency and network services, not by your supplier. These numbers are the same whoever you buy energy from.
| Smell gas, or a gas leak | 0800 111 999 | National Gas Emergency Service, 24 hours |
| Power cut | 105 | Free, connects you to your local network operator, 24 hours |
| Meter sparking or on fire | 999 | Emergency services |
If Octopus Energy can’t resolve it
Complain to Octopus Energy first and ask for a complaint reference. If it is still unresolved after 8 weeks, or you receive a “deadlock” letter before then, you can take it to the Energy Ombudsman free of charge. Their decision is binding on the supplier if you accept it. Ofgem sets the rules suppliers must follow but does not handle individual complaints.
While you’re here — are you still on a fair price?
Most people calling their supplier are doing it because something has gone wrong with a bill. It takes about two minutes to check what Octopus Energy would charge you now against the rest of the market, on your own postcode and usage.
